Supporting our small business community is a top priority at Tacoma Public Utilities.
TPU is offering a utility bill assistance relief program to support small businesses impacted by COVID-19. The funds are a component of the City of Tacoma’s Coronavirus Relief Funds from the federal CARES Act that were allocated to cities as part of Washington State’s response to COVID-19.
Small businesses operating from a brick and mortar building within the city limits of Tacoma with an open TPU account and 50 or less employees could qualify for TPU’s new utility bill payment assistance program. Funds can be applied to charges incurred since March 17, 2020.
The deadline to submit an application has been EXTENDED to Wednesday, November 11.
You will need your TPU account number to complete the application. At this time, this resource is only available to businesses located within City of Tacoma.

Eligible small businesses
- Are TPU customers with an open utility account
- Have a total of 50 or fewer employees
- Operate from a brick and mortar building within the City of Tacoma
Qualified applications are eligible to receive up to $750 in assistance on utility charges incurred since March 17, 2020. Final assistance amounts will be based on the number of qualified applicants.
We continue to waive late fees, suspend disconnections for nonpayment, and offer flexible payment arrangements during the State of Emergency.
We also offer an Emergency Assistance fund for income-eligible residential customers. More information can be found here.
Agencies throughout Pierce County, including the City of Tacoma, have funding and other forms of assistance that small businesses and organizations may be eligible to receive as well.
